New Polish!

So I am clearly not off to a good start with keeping this blog updated and for that I apologize. Yet again, the post is late. I should be able to stay on track starting next week as my hours at my second job are getting cut back a little. 120 hours in two weeks is getting to be a little much for working if you ask me!

Anyways, onto the nails! So this week I learned a new little trick for quickly buffing your cuticles. Coconut oil and an electric toothbrush! I didn't have an electric toothbrush that I don't use for my teeth and I was too cheap to buy one, so I just used a old school manual brush and did the moving myself. Hard work...I know. Phew! I am exhausted from all that back and forth motion! This is a sight that is not seen very often....NAKED NAILS!

All buffed and ready to go. This week I chose to use my newest bottle of nail polish, Forever XXI brand, color called 'Peacock'. I love this color! It's so super sparkly. It's a turquoise-y blue color with very small purple glitter flecks in it. Also, in case any of you that read this are curious, I use O.P.I. Nail Envy as my base coat and Revlon Quick Dry Top Coat whenever I do my nails.

The pictures of this color does not do it justice at all! I find myself often getting distracted by it's sparkle-y-ness while I am trying to work. Here are a few pictures of the finished manicure.

Other exciting news...I recently got my new dotting tools and nail rhinestones in the mail this week so I am thinking some fancy nail art might be in the near future :)

'Til next week!

First Mani of the year

I know, I know...I am a little late to start this challenge. My apologies. Life has been busy. Here we are with our first mani of 2014 though. I really didn't know what I wanted when I started painting my nails. So tonight you are seeing 2 polishes from the Sephora X line. They are 'Infatuated' topped with 'Turbulent'.

At first I thought that Infatuated was going to be too pale of a blue for me because I am fairly pale myself. Turns out that it is a lovely color and I wish I would have got a photo of it before I topped it with Turbulent.

Really short post, cause it's late on a Sunday night and I have to work tomorrow, so here is the finished mani!

I really like the results! A little different from what I am used to. Also, this is the first time that I am testing out my Julep Freedom Polymer TopCoat...you cure it with a 60 watt bulb for 2 mins for a gel like finish without all the hassle! Hopefully it holds up for the week.

See you all next time.

So the new year begins...

So this is my first time doing one of these...a "blog". Never really understood the point of them really. Always kind of thought that it was one of those 'pretentious' things that the kind of people that go to Starbucks and order a "tall, skinny, extra foam, no whip, ultra hot, blabbity blah blah coffee' do in their spare time.

I have recently become...addicted?...to nail polish. Christmas 2012 I rounded up all the bottles of nail polish that I had accumulated over the previous years, which was about 20, and gave them all to my niece as a Christmas gift as she loved doing her nails and me, well not so much at the time. In the past year, I have found the online community of Reddit Laqueristas on www.reddit.com and in the year have purchased 177 new bottles of nail polish. I also now own "specialty" tools such as striping tape, dotting tools, stamping plates, swatch sticks, and have become some what of a snob when it comes to certain brands...Essie, i'm talking about you, you gorgeous thing you! I am even a Julep Maven...which is basically a monthly subscription to nail polish like a magazine subscription. Although instead of getting in touch with the happenings of the world, learning amazing new recipes, or how to give the best sex he's ever had (come on ladies, do we really need to "learn" this), I receive 2-3 bottles of cute little bottles of nail polish in the mail.

Let's move onto the purpose of this blog and why it has been born. Two lovely ladies that I work with heard about my new addiction and thankfully did not start an intervention to help me. Instead they challenged me. The challenge? To use every single bottle of nail polish in the next year. While it doesn't sound that hard to do, it actually is. The constant use of chemicals to change the nail polish can be deadly on your nails/cuticles so you need to take proper care of them. My plan is to do a new mani each week of the year.

The first step? Take an actual inventory of my nail polishes that I own to date so that I am able to keep track of the ones that I have used. This is done. I will be posting all of my manis on this blog to keep track of my work and progress.

I have a feeling that with all my new polish that I will get in 2014, this will become a yearly challenge :)

So here goes, my first blog. I guess it's not just for the non fat, low steam, extra hot people anymore. First mani to come the week of Jan 6th. See you all then.
